A Brief History of Boxing
Boxing started in ancient Egypt and Middle Eastern areas. Ancient Greeks believed fist fighting was one of the games played by the gods on Olympus. Throughout the 17th to 19th centuries, boxing bouts were motivated by money, as the fighters competed for prize money, promoters controlled the gate, and spectators bet on the result. It was introduced in the United States in 1904 during the St. Louis Olympic Games. Women’s Boxing was included in the Olympics in 2012.
